Cardiovascular Surgery

By-Pass Surgery: Heart muscle is fed by coronary arteries. In cases of blockage of these vessels, supply of blood to heart muscle may be obstructed, leading to heart dysfunction, chest pain, heart attack and even sudden death. Treatment methods for arterial narrowing and blockage are balloon/stent applications and by-pass surgery. Within by-pass surgery, arteries from elsewhere of the person’s body (especially legs and chest) are grafted to the coronary arteries so that blood supply to the coronary circulation supplying heart muscle is improved.

Heart Valve Surgery: The heart valves are responsible of one-way direction blood flow between chambers of the heart and to the organs of the body. Congenital or acquired narrowing of the heart valves or valve failure must be treated before any irreversible damage is caused to cardiac function.

Valve repair is preferred however when required, dysfunctional valve may be replaced by prosthetic valve. Most commonly affected valves are aortic, mitral and tricuspid. There are two types of prosthetic valves: mechanical and biological.

Aortic Surgery: The aorta is the main artery carrying blood from heart to other organs. Aortic Aneurism and Aortic Dissection surgeries can be successfully implemented in advanced surgical centers in Turkey.
